Lunchtime

Here at Mercenfeld we wish to ensure that lunchtimes for all our children are happy and enjoyable – a time to eat healthy and enjoy socialising, playing sport and interacting with other children

Our lunchtime team comprises of dedicated Dinner supervisors, some of whom are lSAS within the school, as well as Sports Coaches. These all help to ensure that the same high standards of behaviour and interactions during class times are continued at dinner. Children have the opportunity to play in inter-house sports as well as access clubs such as Homework Club and Book Club during this time.

Children in EYFS (Reception) and KS1 (Year 1 & 2) are entitled to have a hot school meal for free under the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme.

Children in KS2 (Years 3 – 6) can order a school meal for £2.65 per day which should be paid for on Arbor in advance.

Children are able to bring a packed lunch if they prefer but the standard of our school meals is very good and we are proud of the high uptake.

Please ensure that you keep your child’s Arbor record updated with any dietary requirements or food intolerances. A vegetarian/vegan option will be available each day as standard. However, if your child has a food allergy or intolerance the Allergy And Intolerance Form (below) must be completed and returned to the School Office, along with a referral letter from a medical professional, so that an appropriate alternative option can be provided.

Free School Meals and Pupil Premium

Free school meals are also available to KS2 children in certain circumstances. Please see Leicestershire County Council’s Free School Meals webpages below for details of eligibility and how to apply.

If your child is in EYFS or KS1 and receives universal infant free school meals but you would also qualify under the Free School Meals scheme, please do register for the scheme as the School will then receive Pupil Premium funding so we can better support your child. There is a leaflet below which explains this funding.

Currently, all children registered under the Free School Meals scheme also receive food vouchers worth £15.00 per week during holiday periods. Please note, this does NOT apply to children receiving Universal Infant Free School Meals.
