First time admissions/Transfer Application
Mercenfeld Primary School participates with the Local Authority’s First Time Admissions/Transfer Co-ordinating Scheme. This means parents must apply through the Local Authority’s online system or use the common application form, which must be completed submitted or returned by the national closing date. In the case of first time admissions to primary school, this is Thursday 15th January 2026, for a school place in September 2026.
We encourage all parents to come and visit before choosing the right school for their child. Please contact the school office to arrange a tour with Mrs Randle our Headteacher.
In the Summer Term, before your child attends this school there will be opportunities for parents to attend an ‘Induction Evening’ and for your child to attend three induction sessions with their new class teacher. During these sessions they will experience every aspect of school life, PE, Assembly, school dinner and arriving with the rest of the school at the beginning of the day.
- Mercenfeld has an agreed reduction in PAN in 2025 to 30 pupils from 2025.
Operational Capacities
Operational capacities have been set for the academic year 2025/2026 in Yrs 1-6 at Mercenfeld Primary.
This means that the school will accept pupils into classes where there are spaces but cannot for operational reasons accept more than 30 pupils in each class. This action has been taken to secure effective education for those pupils already at Mercenfeld and because accepting pupils above the limit of 30 will “prejudice the effective education of pupils”.
Transfer to High School
This occurs at the end of the academic year in which your child will be 11 years old (Your child must be 11 before 31st August).
The closing date for application to secondary school is Friday 30th October 2025 for a school place in September 2026.
We try very hard to make the transition from Primary to High School as smooth as possible by working closely with colleagues at secondary schools in the local area. Throughout their time at Mercenfeld the pupils have a number of opportunities to take part in enrichment activities organised with South Charnwood High School as well as pre-arranged transition visits and meetings. In the Summer Term, colleagues from South Charnwood High School will meet with our Year 6 teachers to discuss transition arrangements and pupils are given the opportunity to spend two full days at South Charnwood in the last few weeks of the academic year.
